Microblading

Monique spent nearly a decade specialising in Microblading, becoming one of the first artists in South Africa to offer the treatment. As the PMU industry evolved, so did the techniquesβ€”and Monique has always been committed to offering the most advanced and natural results possible.

This dedication led her to train in the Hyperrealism Brows technique, which provides softer, more realistic, longer-lasting results than traditional Microblading. Because of its superior outcome and gentler approach, Monique has transitioned away from Microblading and now focuses exclusively on Hyperrealism Brows to deliver the highest-quality brow results for her clients.

Microblading in Amsterdam – Why I No Longer Offer It

For almost a decade, I offered microblading as one of my core services. It was an exciting time in the world of permanent makeupβ€”finally, there was a technique that allowed us to tattoo realistic hair strokes into the brows. But as the industry evolved, so did my perspective and my practice.

I’ve now decided to move away from microblading completely, and I want to share why.

Why I Stopped Offering Microblading

While microblading initially delivers beautiful, hair-like strokes, the technique involves using a manual blade to create small cuts in the skin where pigment is deposited. Over time, I noticed several consistent issues that made me question whether this method truly served my clients long term:

  • Skin trauma: Microblading cuts the skin, which can lead to scar tissueβ€”especially with repeated touch-ups. This cumulative trauma can compromise the skin's integrity and texture over time.

  • Unpredictable fading: Unlike machine techniques, microblading tends to heal inconsistently. Pigment can blur, fade into undesired tones (such as grey or orange), or migrate under the skin, leading to a powdery or patchy appearance.

  • Limitations on touch-ups: Because the skin is being cut, it can only tolerate so many sessions before healing becomes less optimal. Clients looking for long-term brow enhancements often find they need removal before they can continue.

As someone who believes in enhancing natural beauty while prioritizing skin health, I realized it was time to let go of this technique.

What I Offer Instead: Hyperrealism Brows

Today, I specialise in Hyperrealism Browsβ€”a modern, machine-based technique that offers all the beauty of microblading, without the downsides.

  • Gentle on the skin: Unlike microblading, hyperrealism uses a fine tattoo machine that deposits pigment in the upper layers of the skin with minimal trauma.

  • Natural-looking results: This technique mimics the natural flow and growth of real brow hair. The result? Soft, dimensional brows that are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.

  • Better healing, better fading: Because the skin isn't being cut, healing is smoother, pigment holds better, and fades more gracefully over time.

Why It Matters

Choosing the right technique is about more than just aestheticsβ€”it’s about protecting your skin, achieving long-term satisfaction, and trusting that your artist is always working with your best interest in mind.

I’ve made this shift because I truly believe Hyperrealism Brows are the future of brow tattooing. They align with my values: natural, subtle, and skin-conscious beauty that grows with youβ€”not against you.
